AI Models and Providers

Agentsy makes it easy to choose the AI model that powers conversations on your branded AI website. You do not need to create an AI assistant with OpenAI or Grok. You simply select a supported model in Agentsy and connect your provider API key. For most people, the default model, GPT-5.5, is a great place to start. You can launch with it, test your experience, and explore other available models later if you wish.

Start with GPT-5.5

Agentsy currently selects GPT-5.5 by default. It’s a practical starting point for experiences that help visitors:
  • Explore your expertise, methodology, services, or programs.
  • Ask questions and receive helpful, conversational explanations.
  • Understand their options before speaking with you.
  • Get guidance grounded in the knowledge you’ve made available.
You don’t need to compare every model before launching. For typical educational and advisory conversations, the quality of your System Instructions and knowledge sources often matters more than fine-tuning your model choice.
GPT-5.5 is the current default in Agentsy. The available models and default selection may change as the platform evolves.

Choose your model in Agentsy

  1. Sign in to your Agentsy workspace.
  2. Open Settings → AI Experience.
  3. Find the AI Model selection field.
  4. Keep GPT-5.5 or choose another model from the available list.
  5. Make sure your API Key belongs to the selected model’s provider.
  6. Save your changes and test a conversation on your AI website.
You select the model directly in Agentsy. There is no separate AI assistant to create on the provider’s website.

OpenAI and Grok (xAI)

Agentsy supports model options associated with OpenAI and xAI (Grok), depending on your workspace’s available configuration. The model list inside your Agentsy settings is the best reference for which options are currently supported.
An API key must be valid for the provider you select. A key from OpenAI cannot be used to access an xAI model, and vice versa. Keep API keys private and never place them in public website content or knowledge files.

Do I need to compare model costs?

For many Agentsy experiences, model usage is relatively lightweight: visitors ask questions and receive answers. You usually don’t need to optimize model pricing before getting started. However, AI providers bill API usage separately according to their current pricing and the amount of processing performed. Costs can vary with the model, conversation length, and knowledge retrieval. Check your provider’s pricing and usage dashboard if you want to monitor spending.
Start with GPT-5.5, test your most common visitor questions, and only explore other models if you have a specific reason—such as a preferred provider, different response style, or a cost or performance requirement.

When might you try another model?

You can experiment with other models available in the dropdown if you want to:
  • Compare how they explain your methodology or expertise.
  • Evaluate response tone and clarity for your audience.
  • Use an API provider you already work with.
  • Explore a different balance of speed, capabilities, and usage cost.
When comparing models, ask each one the same small set of questions. Focus on whether visitors receive accurate, useful answers and whether the assistant respects your instructions—not on technical benchmark scores.

Your model is only one part of the experience

The AI model handles the conversation, but your Agentsy setup determines what the experience represents.
  • System Instructions tell the model how to represent your expertise. The AI Experience Builder generates these for you.
  • Knowledge sources provide the information the model can draw on. These are managed with your AI provider and connected through the appropriate knowledge resource ID in Agentsy.
  • Your branded AI website gives visitors a dedicated place to interact with your expertise.
See System Instructions and Create an AI Assistant for the full configuration workflow.

Quick checklist

  • Open Settings → AI Experience.
  • Keep the default GPT-5.5 or select another supported model.
  • Add a valid API key for that model’s provider.
  • Paste the System Instructions generated by the AI Experience Builder.
  • Connect your knowledge resource if you are using one.
  • Save and test a few real visitor questions.
Our recommendation: Start with GPT-5.5 and focus on launching a useful AI Experience. You can always explore other supported models as your needs evolve.
