System Instructions

You don’t need to write System Instructions yourself. The Agentsy AI Experience Builder prepares them for you through a guided conversation with an AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok. Once the Builder generates your System Instructions, you simply review them and paste them into the System Instructions field under Settings → AI Experience in Agentsy.

What are System Instructions?

System Instructions tell the AI how to represent your expertise and interact with visitors. They establish its purpose, conversational approach, limitations, and when it should encourage a human conversation. You don’t have to figure out how to write or structure these instructions. That is what the AI Experience Builder is for.

1. Generate your System Instructions

  1. Open Build Your AI.
  2. Under AI Experience Builder, copy the Builder prompt.
  3. Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, or another AI assistant you prefer.
  4. Follow the conversation. The Builder will use the context available to that AI and ask for clarification when needed.
  5. When the process is complete, locate the generated System Instructions and Knowledge Sources Checklist.
If your AI assistant already knows about your work or business from earlier conversations, that context may make the process easier. Otherwise, you can introduce what you do as you go. You do not need to prepare a detailed brief before starting.
The Builder produces two separate outputs. System Instructions are the text you paste into Agentsy. The Knowledge Sources Checklist helps you identify documents to upload later to your AI provider’s knowledge service; it is not itself a knowledge store.

2. Review the Builder’s output

Read the generated instructions once before using them. You are checking that the Builder understood you correctly, not writing a new prompt from scratch. Confirm that:
  • Your name, organization, expertise, and services are represented accurately.
  • The assistant’s intended audience and purpose are correct.
  • Any limitations, sensitive topics, and human handoff guidance match your needs.
  • The instructions do not claim access to live data or tools you haven’t connected.
If anything is inaccurate or missing, tell the AI that ran the Builder what to change and ask for an updated, complete version of the System Instructions.

3. Paste the instructions into Agentsy

  1. Sign in to your Agentsy workspace.
  2. Go to Settings → AI Experience.
  3. Find the System Instructions field.
  4. Copy the complete System Instructions generated by the Builder and paste them into that field.
  5. Save your changes.
Paste the System Instructions, not the Builder prompt or the Knowledge Sources Checklist. The Builder prompt is used in ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok to create your configuration; its output is what belongs in Agentsy.

4. Complete the other AI Experience settings

System Instructions are only one part of the setup. In the same AI Experience configuration workflow, you also need to:
  • Select your AI model. Agentsy’s current default is gpt-5.5; select a model supported by your chosen provider and account.
  • Add your API key. Create a key with your AI provider (such as OpenAI or xAI) and enter it into Agentsy’s API Key field.
  • Connect your knowledge resource, if needed. Upload the documents identified by your Knowledge Sources Checklist to an OpenAI Vector Store or xAI Collection, then paste the corresponding resource ID into Agentsy’s Vector Store ID field.
These resources are created with the AI provider, not by the AI Experience Builder. For the full process, see Create an AI Assistant and Upload Documents.

5. Test your AI Experience

Open your AI Experience and try a few realistic visitor questions:
  • “What can you help me with?”
  • “How does your approach work?”
  • “What should I consider before choosing your service?”
  • “Can I speak with you directly?”
  • A question outside the knowledge or capabilities you have provided.
Check that the answers reflect your expertise, respect the intended boundaries, and offer a human next step when appropriate. See Testing Your Assistant.

6. Make improvements through the Builder

If the instructions need improvement, return to the AI conversation where you used the Builder. Explain what you want to change and request a revised, complete set of System Instructions. Then replace the text in Settings → AI Experience → System Instructions, save, and test again.
You do not need to become a prompt engineer. Use the Builder to create and refine the instructions; use Agentsy to apply them and deliver your branded AI Experience.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to write my own System Instructions?

No. The AI Experience Builder generates them. Your role is to review the result and add it to Agentsy.

Should I paste the AI Experience Builder prompt into Agentsy?

No. Paste the Builder prompt into ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok. Paste the System Instructions generated by that process into Agentsy.

Does the Builder upload my knowledge documents?

No. It generates a Knowledge Sources Checklist. You still need to upload the relevant files to your provider’s knowledge service and connect the resource ID in Agentsy.

Can I update my System Instructions later?

Yes. Ask the AI that ran the Builder to revise them, replace the instructions in Agentsy, and test the updated experience.
